Criminal court finds ex-militia chief guilty

(dpa) - A good twenty years after the massacres in Darfur in Sudan, an ex-militia chief has been found guilty by the International Criminal Court. Ali Muhammad Ali Abd-Al-Rahman was convicted by the judges in The Hague of 31 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity - including murder, rape and torture. The sentence will be decided at a later date. According to the court, the defendant, also known as Ali Kuscheib, was one of the most important leaders of the government-backed Janjaweed militia, which is held responsible for the murder of around 300,000 people between 2003 and 2006.
