Zimbabwean authorities say people who cannot explain where their wealth came from are in danger of having their assets seized even if courts clear them of a corruption allegation.

The new operation was "an intensive lifestyle audit" of the rich, said the chairman of Zimbabwe's anti-corruption commission Justice Loyce Matanda-Moyo.

Coronavirus: Zimbabwe health minister in court on corruption charges

Zimbabwe's health minister is appearing in court in Harare charged with corruption over the procurement of coronavirus tests and equipment.

Obadiah Moyo was arrested on Friday after the government came under pressure from the opposition and on social media.

A $20m (£16m) contract was awarded to a Hungary-registered firm, allegedly without going through proper processes.

The government has not commented on Mr Moyo's arrest.

When the African countries became independent around 1960, Africa’s share of world trade was about 5.5 percent. Today, it’s only 5 percent and that despite the population having quadrupled. During this period, the World Bank has channeled more than $ 1 trillion in aid to Africa. The Zambian-born economist Dambisa Moyo calls western development aid “Dead Aid” and pleads for its abolition.
