Künftig wird die Nigerianerin Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala die Welthandelsorganisation (WTO) führen. Die letzte noch verbliebene Kandidatin, die südkoreanische Handelsministerin Yoo Myung Hee, zog ihre Bewerbung zurück und die Regierung von US-Präsident Joe Biden, stellte sich am Freitag hinter Okonjo-Iweala. Anfang März wird der Generalrat der WTO-Mitglieder tagen, um die Ernennung zu beschließen.

Wesentliches Mittel der Machterhaltung ist eine weitgehende geheimdienstliche Überwachung des öffentlichen Lebens.

Dominic Ongwen could face decades behind bars after his conviction today at the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity and war crimes – committed arguably by a victim of extreme child abuse.

Ongwen was aged about 10 when he was abducted, around 1993, by Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army, rising to become a commander in the Ugandan armed group, notorious for its abuses against civilians.
