Zambia’s default recovery can weather the storm of opaque Chinese debts, analysts say

A new report, which suggests Zambia’s debts to China are much higher than previously disclosed, is unlikely to unwind the rally in the country’s eurobonds since the election of Hakainde Hichilema as president in August, analysts say.

Sudan failed coup: Government blames pro-Bashir elements

Sudan says that people linked to the ousted President Omar al-Bashir were behind Tuesday's failed coup attempt.

A spokesman blamed "forces of darkness" adding that those involved have been arrested.

Bashir, who had been in power for three decades, was toppled two years ago.

The current administration - involving the military, civilian representatives and protest groups - was then established as part of a power-sharing agreement.

Ethiopia records highest Covid deaths in two days

Covid-19 has claimed the lives of 72 Ethiopians in the last two days, the health ministry has said.

It is the highest number of deaths recorded in the country since last week when the ministry officially confirmed the presence of the highly transmissible Delta variant.

Health officials say the number of positive cases has increased, hospitalisation numbers have gone up with "ICU facilities getting full."
